🎼 Custom Manuscript Journals with Extra Space Between Staves 🎼

Designed by a professional composer

Hey composer!

Are you like me and compose your sketches by hand? ✍🏻

Have you noticed that manuscript journals available on the market from the same old major publishers never change?

They’re always the same, and for whatever reason, they load every page with the maximum number of staves humanly possible, which makes music notation extremely hard to keep from becoming cluttered, even if you’re writing a solo piece!

I feel like part of the reason publishers don’t change these journals is because they probably weren’t designed with the composer’s creative process in mind.

These old-fashioned spiral-bound books probably weren’t designed by composers either… I feel like if they were, they would have taken more care to increase the space between the staves because anyone that’s ever written more than two ledger lines on them knows what a pain it is to have the notes from two staves running into each other!

It’s even frustrating trying to squeeze in simple things like dynamics, articulations, tempo markings, expressive markings, etc., and whenever I use these journals, I often end up skipping staves anyways to avoid these problems, but then there’s still that extra layer of unnecessary visual “noise” between systems—I always end up creating my own custom paper and printing it out but that can be cumbersome and inefficient sometimes! Also, loose pages are easier to lose…

That’s why I decided to create my own Custom Manuscript Journals. They are optimally spaced, so staves don’t run into each other, ledger lines don’t overlap, and it’s designed specifically with composers who sketch by hand in mind. A lot of the time, we don’t need 1000000 staves. Sometimes we need 3 or 4. Sometimes we’re sketching the pitch reduction for an orchestral work on less than 4 staves to be translated later onto larger paper.

My Custom Manuscript Journals come in two sizes: 6x9 inches and 8.5x11 inches (see images👇🏻)

Ledger lines have no space 😭
